Hotel closure is sad news

MY husband and I regularly journey between County Durham and Berwick. We always take the scenic route north from Morpeth on the A697 to Wooler and have often stopped for coffee at the Embleton Hall Hotel in Longframlington.
We learnt that the hotel was to close permanently early in 2013 for redevelopment by new owners into two private houses. While we fully understand the current owner’s reasons for retiring after some 26 years, it nevertheless fills us with sadness. Places such as Embleton Hall are becoming rare. They evolve over many years and their timeless and unaffected charm, once lost, cannot be recreated.
